The OH&S Community Leadership Award Program was founded in 2023. The Community Leadership Award was designed to recognize OH&S Registry members for their roles as community leaders and active volunteers in professional service to the broader safety continuing education community. This leadership may be demonstrated in a variety of ways, through both formal and informal roles, including appointed, elected, or volunteer positions within membership organizations, and associations representing continuing education and the safety community.

Awards will be made at the discretion of the OH&S Registry Recognition Committee. Individuals and teams are eligible for this award. The relative ability of individuals vs. teams to contribute and make an impact will be considered during review.

Nomination Requirements

Anyone may submit a nomination for the OH&S Registry Community Leadership Award with the nominee’s or team’s permission. Self-nominations are also accepted. Nominations must clearly document why the individual(s) should be considered for this award.

Nominations must contain sufficient information to inform the selection process without additional research.  Complete nominations must include a comprehensive overview of the nominee’s (or team members’) accomplishments and experiences; however, it is not a substitute for any of the required information listed below. After reviewing the initial nomination submissions, the recognition committee may request additional information to assist in the evaluation of the nominees under consideration.

Each nominee or team will be reviewed against the following required criteria:

• Substantive participation and leadership on safety committees, working groups, community groups, mentoring activities, etc.
• Contributions considered to have had an impact in the OH&S Registry community and/or broader continuing education safety community.
• Speaking activities and/or authorship that advances topics of interest, regardless of media, to the broader continuing education and safety community.
• Leadership demonstrated in organizations where the nominee is currently or previously employed.

In addition, the committee will also look for evidence that supports:

• Breadth of the community engagement.
• Leadership in addressing issues, influencing change, or new directions from the perspective of workplace safety education.
• Leadership in areas of professional development with safety organizations.

Guidelines and Eligibility

An OH&S Registry Leadership award is intended not to be given more than once to an individual. An individual who has previously received the award may also be nominated for the award for being a part of a team recognition. Preference for the Leadership Award and the Community Leadership Award will be given to candidates who have not received either of these awards previously.

Candidates must be or have been contributing members of the safety community, directly associated with managing safety information and resources in safety education, and individuals who have made significant and demonstratable leadership contributions to the safety field.

Candidates may not be currently serving on the OH&S Registry Quality Assurance Board, OH&S Registry Staff, or OH&S Registry Recognition Committee.

Anyone within or outside of the OH&S Registry may submit nominations for the award. Individuals or teams are eligible for this award.

Recognition

Award recipients are recognized by the OH&S Registry and highlights of their accomplishments are also added to the award gallery. Recipients will also earn an award certificate that will document and display their achievement.

The Leadership Award Recognition Committee will review the nomination and should there be any questions, you will be contacted.  If additional information is not required, the award will be prepared and forwarded to the nominator or if preferred it will be sent directly to the nominee.

These awards are given free of charge.
